Warning System Services

We specialise in installing and maintaining evacuation systems – Emergency Warning & Intercommunication Systems (EWIS), Occupant Warning Systems (BOWS) and general Evacuation Systems. Our comprehensive approach ensures compliance with building regulations for safe evacuation. We adhere to standards AS1670 to ensure each project is carried out to the highest standard.

We focus on creating systems that facilitate safe evacuation for people occupying the space. By ensuring compliance with these regulations, we guarantee a seamless and secure environment, prioritising the safety of all occupants in the event of an emergency.

We can efficiently quote customers requirements based on drawings, scope of works, engineering reports in conjunction with on-site visits for existing buildings, we cover every aspect.

At CED Fire Protection we design install and maintain BOWS – Building occupancy warning systems.

A building occupant warning system (also known as an occupant warning system) is a type of emergency warning system that is designed and installed in accordance with Clause 6 of Specification E2.2a of the BCA and Clause 3.22 of Australian Standard AS1670.1.

A building occupant warning system can be one of the following;

  • – A sound system for emergency purposes designed and installed in accordance with Australian Standard AS1670.4;
  • – Electronic sounders or and amplified sound systems producing an evacuation signal.

These systems may be supplemented by additional visual or tactile signals to augment the emergency evacuation signal. BOWS systems are generally found in smaller buildings such as childcare, offices, residential apartments and industrial factories excluding the below:

At CED Fire Protection we design install and maintain EWIS – Emergency warning and intercommunications systems.

An Emergency Warning and Intercommunication System (“EWIS”) is a type of warning system used to warn the occupants of a building in the event of a fire or other emergency. These systems are typically designed and installed with respect to AS-1670 – Emergency and intercom systems.

An emergency warning and intercommunication system is typically two systems typically housed in a cabinet. The two components include;

  • Emergency Warning System.
  • Intercommunication System.

An emergency warning system comprises control and indicating equipment including one or more amplifiers wired to a series of loudspeakers or visual warning devices distributed throughout the building. The speakers are arranged to that the warning signals (alert and evacuate) are distinctly audible and to ensure that the required A-Weighted prescribed sound pressure level can be achieved.

An intercommunication system is a type of one to one or one to many local telephone system to enable communication between the host (usually the Chief Warden) at the emergency warning system control and indicating equipment (“ewcie”) and a remote warden intercom phone.
